PA Supervision Documentation Requirements Temporarily Waived During Current State of Emergency

Posted 1 minute ago

The Vermont Board of Medical Practice signed an order today waiving "the requirement to submit physician assistant documentation for all new physician assistant practice sites and for all changes to supervision or scope of practice at an established practice site” related to COVID emergency response.

Please see the attached order for full details. It is effective today.

This waiver is only effective during the current state of emergency.

PAAV waiting for emergency medical services bill

The PAAV is working with state officials to streamline Vermont-licensed PAs' ability to assist with COVID-19 response.

We await the signing of H.472, an emergency medical services bill which would allow the Board of Medical Practice to waive certain license requirements.

Delegation and Supervisory Agreement requirements must continue to be submitted to the Board until further notice.

The PAAV will update this page as soon as additional information is available from the Board.

Update Re: licensure requirements for COVID response

Despite Gov. Scott’s emergency proclamation, Vermont law requires VT-licensed PAs to submit the following documentation to the VT Board of Medical Practice before they begin to practice in a new specialty (ie: Ortho PA being asked to cover ED/urgent care):

  • Employment Contract
  • Delegation Agreement
  • Primary Supervising Physician Agreement
  • Secondary Supervising Physician Agreement

Click here to:  Link to the above forms

Click here to:  Link to Vermont PA licensing instructions.

The PAAV is actively working with state officials and lawmakers to allow more flexibility around PA deployment in COVID response.

An emergency bill (H.742) passed by the House and now in the Senate would streamline this process, but has not become law as of 3/18/20.

Please contact the Board of Medical Practice with any additional licensure questions:
