Position Description

Department/School: Physician Assistant Program/ School of Health Sciences and Human Performance

Employment: 1.0 FTE, non-tenure track, 12-month

Anticipated start date: Negotiable

Academic Appointment: Academic rank is commensurate with experience

Position Summary: The Director of Clinical Education faculty member reports directly to the Program Director and is a key member of the leadership team. Clinical sites are already established for this program. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Develop, maintain and review all clinical sites and respective affiliation agreements alongside the Medical Director.
  • Provide each clinical preceptor orientation on instruction and assessment of the physician assistant student.
  • Provide effective administrative leadership and guidance to faculty and staff members involved in the clinical phase.
  • Conduct clinical site visits to evaluate students and preceptors.
  • Effectively develop and implement all clinical rotation assignments, assessments, and remediation.
  • Plan and implement all activities during end of rotation days.
  • Work closely with the Director of Didactic Education in the oversight and implementation of the overall curricular design, in order to ascertain a seamless transition from the didactic phase into the clinical phase of the program.
  • Ensure that the program’s clinical curriculum challenges students while facilitating their professional development.
  • Provide effective advising and mentoring for students.
  • Serve on program committees and/or other committees within the institution.
  • Conduct data collection and analysis for the clinical phase of the program.
  • Provide support and assistance in continuous programmatic assessment and accreditation processes.
  • Provide course instruction according to the expertise of the candidate as needed by the program.
  • Participate in the annual program mission statement review.
  • Participate in the admissions process of the program including student selection.

Required Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program; current NCCPA certification with eligibility for licensure in the State of New York;

  • Previous clinical precepting or teaching experience for an accredited physician assistant program or medical school is strongly preferred.
  • Clinicians new to academia, with at least one year of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant, are encouraged to apply and will have the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment with active and supportive mentoring and faculty development training.
  • Ability to travel to clinical sites required.
