Southern states, including Arkansas, are disproportionately impacted by HIV and STIs. As leaders in preventive medicine, PAs must stay up to date with the newest clinical guidelines for HIV & STI prevention. HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and doxycycline as bacterial STI post-exposure prophylaxis (Doxy PEP) can curb the increasing incidence of HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. PAs can incorporate these evidence-based and patient-centered approaches into their clinical practice in a multitude of settings.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss the current epidemiology of HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  2. Identify current guidelines for biomedical prevention of HIV and STIs
  3. Evaluate clinical indications for use of HIV PrEP and Doxy PEP
